2 SF residents arrested after gunshot while intoxicated

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Two Sioux Falls residents are behind bars after an aggravated assault involving a gun over the weekend.

Mary Loyer, 48, and Raymond Shimel, 43, are facing multiple charges, including domestic aggravated assault, aggravated assault, possession of a loaded firearm while intoxicated, and a DWI. Shimel received an additional charge of reckless discharge of a firearm.

According to Sioux Falls Police Spokesman Sgt. Aaron Benson, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of North Fairfax around 7:15 p.m. on Saturday.

Loyer got into an argument with two men outside of her residence; one of them was a relative, the other a friend of the relative.

According to police, the argument began over bad parking in an alleyway. After a while, Loyer pulled a handgun, held the two men at gunpoint, and threatened to shoot them.

She then got into an F-150 pickup being driven by Shimel. He took the gun away from Loyer and fired one round at a brick wall while driving away.

Officers found the truck near 11th Street and Minnesota Avenue, with Loyer driving the truck. Shimel, who was in the passenger seat, admitted to firing the gun to scare the victims off the property.

According to Benson, alcohol was a factor in the aggravated assault.

No injuries were reported to the 23-year-old and 33-year-old victims.
