A three year old Thai boy lost his life after falling from a motorcycle and being run over by a truck on a road in Nonthaburi province near Bangkok on Saturday, September 6.
A Thai father sought assistance from the Ruam Katanyu Rescue Foundation and Bang Srimueang Police Station after his son was struck by a truck with a loader crane on Ratchaphruek Road in the Bang Klang sub-district of Nonthaburi.
A rescuer told the local news outlet, คลายทุกข์คนนนท์ (meaning relieve Nonthaburi residents from suffering), that he and his team arrived to witness the tragic scene when the 34 year old father Wisarut Rueangwong was carrying his son while crying for help.
The boy was struggling to breathe, prompting rescuers to administer first aid and CPR. Tragically, the young child died at the scene.
Wisarut was travelling with his three year old son and his 29 year old wife, Jaruwan Charoenphan, on a motorcycle. The boy reportedly sat in front of his father.
Dashcam footage from a car behind captured the accident. The video showed Wisarut losing control of the motorcycle, causing the boy to fall onto the road. A truck moving slowly on the left then ran over the child.
It is suspected that Wisarut tried to avoid hitting a sedan that had slowed down due to traffic ahead. In attempting to veer slightly left, he lost control.
The truck driver told the media that he was driving as usual when he heard the crash behind him. He stopped to investigate and found the boy under his vehicle.
Police collected evidence at the scene and invited the truck driver to the station for questioning. No charges have yet been filed against any party.
In a similar accident reported in the central province of Nakhon Pathom, a Thai woman fled the scene after running her SUV over a homeless man at Phra Pathon Chedi. CCTV footage showed her dragging the man for a few metres before parking the vehicle.
She then exited the vehicle, but did not seek any medical assistance for the victim. Instead, she walked away from the scene and reportedly travelled in another car to perform a merit ceremony with her friends.
