SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Two people were allegedly held hostage in a room they were renting on West 13th Street in Sioux Falls Monday night by the man renting the room.
A woman and a girl were renting a room a house and the man that was renting the house to them told the pair he had multiple guns in the house. The woman and girl feared for their own safety and felt they could not leave, Sioux Falls Police spokesman Aaron Benson said at Tuesday’s briefing.
The women texted Metro Communications around 6 p.m. Monday and police responded. Police were able to evacuate the woman and girl.
The man initially shut the door on law enforcement but through dialogue, police were able to arrest him 40 minutes later, Benson said.
Darius Tehmeh, 34, was arrested for sexual exploitation of a minor, kidnapping and sexual contact without consent.
The investigation determined there was some type of assault that took place while the pair were in the house, but no injuries have been reported.
The investigation remains ongoing.
