6 Aldi items on shoppers ‘do not buy list’ as they brand them ‘waste of money’

AN Aldi devotee has advised fellow customers to stay away from some merchandise this month.

They argued that while the supermarket giant offers plenty of must-have items, not all are worth the budget-friendly price.

“I’ve been shopping at Aldi for the past six months when a store finally opened by me,” the thoughtful shopper explained in a thread on Reddit.

“Aside from a select few brand name items (Diet Coke for example) have no issue with store brand products.”

“So I’ve been happy to try much of what Aldi has to offer,” they added.

Except, the consumer argued that at least six products have “been misses” for their family, and that they wouldn’t recommend others buy them as they were a “waste of money.”

Each of the do-not-buys were an Aldi-brand food or drink item, and the shopper cited particular taste issues that either weren’t desired, or that didn’t match up enough to some name brands for the cost.

GROCERY GRIEVANCE

The six included the L’Oven Fresh Garlic & Herb Bread, Aldi-brand Boneless Pork Shoulder Roast with BBQ Seasoning, Baker’s Treat Confetti Brownies, Millville Fruit & Grain Soft Baked Bar in Raspberry, Simply Nature Organic Uncured Beef Hot Dogs, Clancy’s Cheese Puffs, and Nature’s Nectar Raspberry Lemonade.

For the L’Oven Fresh Garlic & Herb Bread, the real miss was a lack of “buttery flavor” while having a “weird savory flavor,” according to the Aldi customer.

The Boneless Pork Shoulder Roast with BBQ Seasoning was “too chemical tasting.”

Harsh criticism was given to the Baker’s Treat Confetti Brownies, with the customer blasting the treat as “dry and gross,” and the Millville Fruit & Grain Soft Baked Bar in Raspberry was “too soft/oily.”

“We liked the Great Value (Walmart), Kroger and Trader Joe’s knock offs of the nutragrain bars so it’s not generic vs name brand issue,” they added for clarity.

According to the Aldi shopper, there was also a “vinegar taste” to the Simply Nature Organic Uncured Beef Hot Dogs, and they were “not juicy” enough for their liking.

Rounding out the list were the Clancy’s Cheese Puffs that supposedly tasted like “rancid oil no cheese flavor,” and the Nature’s Nectar Raspberry Lemonade, which was a bit sweet for their family’s liking.

Of course, these critiques from the Aldi customer are subjective.

Some fellow shoppers didn’t feel the same about some of the six products on their do-not-buy list for September.

Aldi Policies

Aldi has several store policies customers should remain aware of. The U.S. Sun has compiled a short list for shoppers’ next trip to their local store.

  • Customers pay one-quarter for a cart and can get the coin back once they return it to the proper spot.
  • There are no baggers and customers typically bag their groceries or cashiers offer assistance.
  • Aldi places products in aisles with the same packaging they were shipped in by vendors to save customers money.
  • Full refunds and exchanges are given through Aldi’s Twice as Nice policy on all Aldi-brand items customers aren’t satisfied with.
  • No plastic bags are sold at any Aldi store.
  • Reusable and paper bags are offered to customers.

“The organic hotdogs slap so hard, you must’ve gotten a bad batch,” someone commented in the thread.

“My husband disagrees with you on the bbq pork shoulder. It’s his favorite thing to cook when it’s his turn. He does use his own bbq sauce when he serves it though,” another added.

“My family loves the cheese puffs. We buy them every visit,” a third argued.

SPOOKY SAVINGS

Aldi customers are also rushing to grab Halloween favorites before they sell out and before the beloved holiday arrives.

Most candy for trick-or-treating at the chain’s over 2,500 US stores is less than $5 this month.

For example, ten-ounce bags of Snickers, Twix, and Milky Way are just $4.49.

There’s even a 40-count variety pack of KitKats, Reese’s, Hershey’s, Twizzlers, and Jolly Ranchers for $9.94 at a size of 20 ounces.

A Reese’s special pumpkin-shaped candy is also on sale for $5.96.

Those shoppers still looking for decorations can also get an inflatable spooky season hit item for just $13.

There are even 11 other decor items that start at $1.99 while supplies last.
