SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – In two months, residents in Sioux Falls will no longer be able to get postal services at Hy-Vee and Lewis Drug stores. There are still some other options, though, if you don’t want to wait in line at a traditional post office.
Ship 605, located along East 10th Street, is a shipping business that works with not only the United States Postal Service but also FedEx, UPS, DHL and Spee-Dee.
“We also do U-Haul rentals out of our location here. Kind of a little bit of everything. We do copy and printing, we do document shredding,” Michael Shelburg, owner of Ship 605, said. “We work with a company called Sterling Identities so we do digital fingerprinting for the FBI as well.”
Shelburg says he knows there’s been some worry about USPS pulling out from Hy-Vee and Lewis Drug so he’s thinking of possibly expanding his business.
“Generally, it’s me and my wife Sandra here that kind of run the operations here but we will start looking into staffing a little bit, especially come October when it’s official and they are closed down,” Shelburg said. “And we are looking to probably expand our hours out a little bit, closer to like 8, maybe 9 pm.”
If you don’t live on the East side of town, there’s also Postal Annex here the West side of town.
“We aren’t going anywhere. We’re going to do all the carriers,” Paul Nagel, owner of Postal Annex, said. “Or if they’re just looking for a stamp or mail a letter, we can also do that.”
Postal Annex is located along South Louise Avenue. Nagel says they’ve already been seeing a slight increase in traffic, but they are preparing for even more people to check them out.
“We have adjusted our staff hours a little bit. We’re increasing our inventory, our stamps, our packing materials,” Nagel said. “We are potentially looking to expand our hours as well. We are going to be open on Saturdays starting in September.”
