Last week, McLaurin officially requested a trade away from the organization.
McLaurin has produced five straight 1,000-yard seasons, putting up incredible numbers even before rookie star Jayden Daniels joined the team.
Despite those incredible numbers, McLaurin feels he is undercompensated based on other wide receiver salaries.
Currently, he is on a three-year, $68 million deal that expires at the end of the 2025 season.
His average annual salary is $22.7 million, good for 19th among wide receivers in the league.
Currently, Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals is the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL at $40 million per season.
McLaurin is looking to get a new contract that reflects his production and his loyalty to the Commanders, but so far the team isn’t playing ball.
Orlovsky thinks this is an awful move from the Commanders.
“This is one of the dumbest things that has been a part of the NFL this offseason,” Orlovsky said.
“It’s one of the most maddening situations that I have been watching this NFL offseason.
“It ain’t that hard. And I have had people disagree with me on that. It’s not that hard.
“Respectfully, Washington, you were a dumpster fire for years. You were a laughing stock.
“The only good thing about your organization was that young man. Every year, he did it.
” Year after year after year, for like five or six years, with disaster all around you. He was the only reason why anyone spoke somewhat positively about your organization.”
Orlovsky then went on to share that he can only name a few wide receivers in the league that he thinks are more important that McLaurin.

“Give me receivers that impact winning as much, if not more, than Terry McLaurin,” he said.
“I’ll give you Ja’Marr [Chase], I’ll give you Justin [Jefferson], Amon-Ra St. Brown. He impacts winning.
“This is a team that had six fourth-quarter comebacks, was ridiculous on fourth down. What are we doing in Washington?
“You finally have some good. You finally have hope for the future. And you’re trying to take away the one thing in your organization that, before Jayden (Daniels) and that group got there, was good.
“It makes no sense.”
