Collins was in the midst of a match against fellow American Taylor Townsend when something went wrong.
The two were in the second set of their match, with Townsend winning the first 6-4 and the second being in a tiebreak.
Townsend appeared to be getting ready to serve when Collins turned to her box in the crowd and starting screaming.
At one point she could be heard yelling “Why is this happening to me?”
She then turned back to the court and covered her face while crying.
That outburst caused many fans to flock to social media to criticize Collins and question what the issue was.
“She was just being dramatic. Same old,” one fan said.
“These girls just can’t keep it together lately,” another said.
“It sounded like something personal was going on with her,” a third person speculated.
“Not sure what was going on with DC. Something was v off,” a fourth fan said.
“Have never liked her. Now my thoughts are verified!” a fifth fan said.
Tennis Channel commentator Lindsay Davenport speculated at the time that Collins wasn’t being dramatic, but was rather dealing with an injury.
It turns out that hypothesis was correct, as Collins revealed that she was playing through a herniated disc.
She took to social media to call out the “keyboard warriors” who spoke online before knowing the circumstances.

“Anyone who has a herniated disc knows my pain; it’s no surprise the keyboard warriors can’t understand or relate, as they’ve been too busy sitting on their asses judging people who show up and try to give it their best even on days that suck,” she wrote.
“Thank you to everyone who has been praying for my injury and thank you to Taylor Townsend for being the best of the best.”
Collins eventually lost the match 6-4, 7-6(2).
She is currently No. 57 in the women’s ATP rankings.
