DANIELLE Spencer, who starred in ABC sitcom What’s Happening!! has died at the age of 60.
The star, known for her role as Dee Thomas in the show, passed away in Virginia, as per a report by The Hollywood Reporter.
Danielle’s What’s Happening!! co-star Haywood Nelson told the outlet of her death, saying, “She suffered for a very long time but did it with a great deal of courage.”
Haywood then went on to tell TMZ that Danielle passed away with her mom Cheryl and her jazz musician brother Jeremy Pelt by her side.
Having last spoken to her just two weeks ago, he said she sounded upbeat at the time.
He went on to say how she had “recently been in a car accident and was in a wheelchair”, as per the outlet.
He shared a tribute on social media for Danielle, who he had always seen as his little sister.
He said in the post that her battle had taken a heavy toll, but added how she has “finally found her release from the clutches of this world and a body”.
The actress was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a double mastectomy in 2014.
Then, in 2018 she underwent emergency surgery to relieve bleeding on her brain.
At the time, a GoFundMe page was set up to help her pay for her medical expenses.
Danielle shot to fame in the hit ABC sitcom What’s Happening!!, which ran from 1976 to 1979.
She also reprised her iconic role in the 1980s spin-off What’s Happening Now!! before leaving Hollywood in the 1990s to become a veterinarian.
