According to the NY Post, Smacking Burger’s viral smash burger is in fact a Mobil station, located on Eighth Avenue and Horatio in the heart of Greenwich Village.

Indeed, it is one of the last remaining gas stations that can be found below 14th Street.

It’s become a cult favorite among hungry New Yorkers and beyond, thanks to a standout menu featuring items like the “Big Smack” burger, “The Truff” burger and loaded fries.

Better yet, all the items are reasonably priced by NYC standards.

Fans of the joint have praised its flavors, blend of classic and unique options, and the addition of milkshakes to the menu.

It’s inclusive too, with vegetarian and pet-friendly options also available.

Smacking Burger was founded by Tommy Hondros and Elizabeth Torres in 2024.

Hondros, a Brooklyn native with deep ties to the gas station industry, wanted to bring back the nostalgic charm of old-school fuel stop burger joints.

Torres, with her passion for food, crafted the menu that has since gone viral and maintained its popularity.

The shop’s success has solidified its place as a standout in NYC’s food scene, earning recognition alongside other unique eateries across the country.

“I wanted to get that old-school feeling. There’s nothing but Burger King now,” said Hondros.

Smacking Burger joins ranks with sites that serve lobster taquitos in Yosemite and Hawaiian loco moco in Washington, but is the only New York establishment on the list.

This comes as a bakery in New Jersey has urged drivers wearing cologne to avoid getting out of their car and instead use the drive-thru.

Century Bakery, based in Bridgeton, recently made the surprising request for anyone who wants to enter their business.

Taking to social media, they wrote: “We kindly ask that if you wear strong perfumes or colognes, please utilize our drive-thru service.

“Several cashiers in our bakery suffer from asthma, and this time of year can be particularly challenging for them due to the high pollen count.

“The addition of strong fragrances can make it even more difficult for them to breathe, as their airways are already irritated.

“Please note that these fragrances tend to linger in the building even after you leave, which can lead to coughing and discomfort for our team members.”

Further down, the post implies that some customers have made rude remarks about employees coughing.

It concluded: “We appreciate your understanding in keeping comments regarding coughing to yourselves if you choose to enter the building wearing heavy scents.”

Later, in a statement to Today.com, the bakery said that this is not an official rule – but more of a request to its customers.

What defines ‘distracted driving’?

Distracted driving claims lives every year nationwide, and it’s 100% preventable

However, many drivers assume that distracted driving is limited to using their phone while behind the wheel.

While using a phone to text, call, send emails, scroll through or post to social media, and make or accept video calls is illegal nationwide, other behaviors can be just as distracting – and dangerous.

Other behaviors that distract drivers:

  • Adjusting the radio or GPS
  • Applying makeup in visor mirrors
  • Eating and drinking, as it takes one or both hands from the wheel
  • Reaching into the backseat to grab personal items
  • Rummaging through a purse, glove box, or center console

Thankfully, driving distracted can be prevented. Here are some proven tactics to stay focused:

  • Put your phone in “Do Not Disturb” or “Driving Mode,” as it temporarily pauses notifications, but will push a call or text through if urgent
  • If distraction is difficult to avoid, put the phone in a safe place, like a purse, glove box, center console, or back seat
  • If a text message or call needs to be sent or made, pull over and park
  • Give the phone to a passenger when applicable to send a text or make a call
  • Be a role model – practicing safe driving in front of impressionable passengers helps pass along safe behaviors
