Cleveland Browns announce final deadline for Shedeur Sanders decision with quarterback battling to make 53-man roster

THE Cleveland Browns have made it clear when they’ll reveal who will start in Week 1.

The Browns‘ quarterback battle between rookie Shedeur Sanders and others will end soon, with less than two weeks to go until the regular season begins.

Cleveland is 2-0 in the preseason, as they have just one more preseason game left.

Sanders, who has been battling to make the 53-man roster, started in the first game and played well, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel started in the second contest and also flashed his potential.

But with time running out, the Browns are now set to name a starting quarterback later this week.

On Sunday, Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanksi told reporters that the Week 1 starter will be announced this week.

The two-time head coach of the year also shared that the final preseason game of the year will act as a dress rehearsal before their season-opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 7.

“We will name a starter,” Stefanski said during a press conference on Sunday.

“It’s going to come this week.

“We still anticipate all of our players, whether you’re a starter or not, to prepare like you’re the starter.

“Knowing all of our players in that room, that’s exactly what they’ll do.”

The Browns have had four quarterbacks in training camp: Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Sanders.

The team also signed Tyler Huntley earlier this month due to injuries.

Sanders is currently day-to-day with an oblique strain, and Pickett has been dealing with a hamstring issue.

The latter quarterback has been participating in 7-on-7 drills, but he hasn’t been involved in 11-on-11 drills since the injury first occurred late last month.

Stefanski was asked about the possibility of having four quarterbacks at the start of the season, which is not common around the league.
