Summer is coming to an end, and it’s nearly time to assess what you’ve spent this season.

In Michigan, the company Consumers Energy is giving away a total of $2 million to support households who are overdue on their summer energy bills.

In order to qualify for the payment, there are three main categories you can fall into.

Aside from being overdue, recipients could’ve had their energy service shut off.

They could also be carrying an energy debt balance form a previous address.

Lauren Snyder, Consumers Energy’s senior vice president, chief customer and growth officer, praised the work of the scheme.

She also assured those in Michigan that they are here to help them.

Snyder said: “Consumers Energy is proud to again take the lead in assisting our customers in their greatest time of need – ensuring more Michigan households who need help this summer can access these funds.

“We want anyone who’s concerned about making ends meet to know you can count on us to help ease some of the costs of energy bills.”

The amount of assistance each household will receive is based on a couple of things, namely income level and household size.

Assistance will be given out via two community partners in the area, The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW) and the Salvation Army.

To apply, you can either go to the THAW website here or your local Salvation Army by clicking this link.

HERE TO HELP

This isn’t the first helping hand Consumers Energy has extended this year.

Back in March, Consumers Energy reached out to senior citizens in Michigan.

Through these calls, Consumers Energy would be offering personalized payment assistance options.

This was done to help senior customers get back in control, of their winter energy payments, and it lasted throughout the month.

Snyder, commenting on this specific program, promised help to save consumers money and offer help to those in need.

She said: “We want our customers to know that we are here for them 24/7, in any season.

“And that means we’re here to help them save energy and save money.

“Whether it’s through our various energy saving programs or through our payment assistance options, we can help our neighbors most in need.”
