Seattle Mariners star Victor Robles handed major suspension by MLB after throwing bat at rival in explosive outburst

SEATTLE Mariners outfielder Victor Robles has been given a lengthy suspension by MLB after throwing his bat at an opponent during a game.

The 28-year-old was playing for one of the team’s minor league teams and performed the fiery action.

Robles was playing for the Triple-A Tacoma as they were taking on the Las Vegas Aviators on Sunday.

During the third inning, he was hit by a fastball pitch from starting pitcher Joey Estes.

After taking some steps behind the plate and dropping his bat, Robles picked up the bat and threw it in Estes’ direction.

He was immediately ejected from the game and had to be restrained by teammates.

On Tuesday, the MLB announced that Robles received a 10-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for his actions.

The suspension won’t begin until Robles returns to the active big league roster.

He has been on a rehab assignment while recovering from a shoulder injury suffered in April.

After Sunday’s game, Robles said he let his frustration get the best of him after he had already been hit by pitches three times in five rehab games for the minor league team.

He then shared an apology on his Instagram stories.

“Coming off a long rehab and being away from the game for most of the season has been physically and mentally challenging,” Robles said.

Adding to that, the recent passing of my mother has been incredibly hard, and I’ve been doing my best to hold it together.

That’s not an excuse, but some context I feel you deserve to understand where I’m coming from.”

Robles has appealed the suspension, so no immediate action has been taken.

The Mariners were hoping for Robles to return at some point during the team’s upcoming homestand this weekend against The Athletics.

But president of baseball operations Jerry Dipoto said that those plans might now “need to be altered.”

Robles, a nine-year MLB veteran, is in his second season with the Mariners after being acquired from the Washington Nationals.

He played seven seasons with the Nationals, where he won a World Series in 2019.

Last season, he had a stellar .328 batting average and 30 steals in 77 games with Seattle.
