TSA warning about common carry-on beauty item that can cause delays & trigger hazmat response if packed incorrectly

THE TSA has issued an urgent reminder to travelers hoping for a smooth journey through security before jetting off.

Anyone who incorrectly packs a common beauty item will trigger a hazmat response and cause delays.

Taking to Facebook the Transportation Security Administration warned flyers about the little-known rule.

It applies to those who want to style their hair with a certain tool while they are away.

“All us to iron out the details,” the TSA said.

Passengers who use curling irons must pay close attention to the baggage rules.

“Any cordless curling irons containing gas cartridges (butane) discovered in a checked bag will be removed and turned over to the airline as a HAZMAT item,” the warning stated.

“Cordless curling irons containing a gas cartridge or butane are ONLY permitted in carry-on bags.

“Corded electric curling irons and hair straighteners aren’t restricted.”

But those who do pack cordless hair styling tools must also ensure there is “a safety cover fitted over the heating element”.

In addition to this, you can only have one per passenger and no spare cartridges are allowed.

“The device must be protected from accidental activation,” the TSA website adds.

The same packing restrictions are included for any curling irons that have lithium metal or lithium ion batteries.

But as always, individual TSA officers have the final say on what is allowed through the security point.

Any hair styling tools with cords are able to be taken on flights in checked or carry-on baggage.

The reminder comes as the TSA rolled out numerous baggage changes this year.

As well as new ID processes, there are a number of items now banned from checked bags as well as new liquid and shoe policies.

Meanwhile, the TSA has issued a ‘hand’ request that could save travelers a pricey and upsetting luggage disaster.

It comes as people are turning to an old-school method of preserving their memories – film cameras.

Those who are new to using film may not be aware that they have to take special action to preserve their pictures if taking it through security undeveloped.

This is because scanner technology can cause irreparable damage which will not be discovered until the film is developed.

Previously, a TSA agent has spoken to The U.S. Sun to set the record straight on security checks after a traveler “left with mysterious white gift” after an inspection at the airport.
