The 2025 high school football campaign began for most teams last weekend.
Most teams played their first regular-season games of the year on Friday, August 22, or Saturday, August 23.
Unfortunately for one coach, one game was all it took to get booted off a team.
A high school program moved on from a head coach just one game into the 2025 regular season.
One Georgia high school abruptly fired its head coach after a season-opening blowout defeat.
Banks County High School lost to East Hall, 42-21, in Week 1.
The team fired its head coach after the disappointing result.
The program axed head coach Todd Winter and replaced him with offensive coordinator Mark Hollars.
Banks County Schools Superintendent Dr. Ann Hopkins announced the move in a press release.
“We are excited to announce that Cach Mark Hollars will serve as the new head football coach at Banks County High School,” Hopkins said in the press release.
“Coach Hollars is committed to building a strong, unified program that reflects the values of teamwork, discipline and pride in being a Leopard.
“We look forward to the future of Banks County football under his leadership and are confident this new chapter will bring fresh energy and focus to our program.”
Hopkins added, “We are appreciative of the time and commitment Coach Todd Winter has given to our student-athletes.”
Winters had only been hired in early 2024, but had a tough first year of coaching the Banks County program.
He went 2-9 in the last campaign.
Winters entered the position after finding success at Holy Innocents Episcopal School in Atlanta, where he led the team to the playoffs in five consecutive years, including a semifinal berth.
However, he didn’t have the same success with Banks County, leading to his firing.
The new coach, Hollars, was a head coach at Commerce for four seasons, winning 31 games before joining Banks County this year.
He led the team to a region title in 2023
