SHOPPERS have slammed Popeyes after the brand made a huge change to its soda fountains.
The chicken company says that the new policy has been brought in to protect its customers’ “safety”.

However, one customer was furious when they spotted this sign in their local store[/caption]
One Reddit user shared a picture from their recent visit to a Popeyes in their area, which showed that the brand had closed its soda fountains to customers.
In order to get a drink from the fountain, shoppers will need to speak to staff to get them to switch it on.
The picture uploaded to Reddit showed a new sign on the front of the machine which read: “You can’t have a biscuit without a beverage.
“Ask our team members for beverage and condiment assistance.
“This is temporarily closed for y’all’s safety.”
The angry shopper has claimed that the Popeye’ is in a “rough part of town with a lot of homeless” people.
They said this is “really” the reason behind the change.
Angry customers flooded the post’s comments section, slamming the brand’s choice to close the soda fountains.
One wrote: “Yeah I can’t believe this is corporate-backed signage it’s f*****g idiotic.”
The US Sun has approached Popeyes for comment.
The news comes after the chicken brand unveiled plans to overhaul its customer experience.
As part of a major shakeup to its stores, Popeyes is planning to install new, high-tech machines to make it even easier to order.
According to Josh Kobza, CEO of Restaurant Brands International (RBI), every Popeyes will have the new machines within 22 months.
The machines will include “cloud-based point of sale systems, digital drop charts, sticky label printers, order-ready boards, kiosks and upgraded back-of-house equipment, including auto batter-makers and improved hot holding units.”
Meanwhile, rival fast-food chain Wendy’s has unveiled a new menu item as it goes head-to-head with Popeyes.
Wendy’s has started selling Chicken Tenders and fans are saying they are “much crispier and crunchier breading than the McCrispy strips”.
Another added that they are “more like the old school chicken selects”.
