The quarterback has attracted a lot of attention but recently endured the unwanted kind with a sick joke on the internet.

A false rumor claimed the Clemson senior was involved in a serious car crash over the weekend.

The fake news went viral and that led to a distressed phone call from his mother looking to make sure he was safe.

Klubnik said: “I was sitting at home just hanging out with my roommates and my mom calls me crying.

“And I’m like, ‘What’s going on?’ She’s tearing up, seeing if I’m OK. I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m fine. What’s going on?’ That was the first I heard of it, and then the calls and texts started coming in.

“I don’t know who it was, but man, just shame on them for the pain that they had to put people that I love through

“I’m not really interested in talking about it anymore, but it was a messed-up joke, whatever. But I’m OK.”

Klubnik, though, has put things behind him and continues to concentrate on his rising career that could lead to the NFL.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney said: “He’s on his way to being a high Draft pick.

“He’s got a lot of poise. He’s got great instincts, really good pocket awareness.

“He’s got big time arm talent. He’s tough, and they’ve put a good group together up front.”
