Travel chaos hits major US airports with flights grounded & delays set to worsen on busiest-ever Labor Day weekend

PASSENGERS at two major airports have had their Labor Day weekend plans plunged into chaos as flights have been grounded.

It comes after the TSA issued a warning that it is set to be the busiest-ever Labor Day weekend with a record 17.4 million travelers expected to pass through US airports over the coming days.

But for some, their plans have already been thrown off with Dallas Fort Worth Airport and Dallas Love Field Airport in Texas both grounding flights.

According to the Federal Aviation Administration, officials have ordered ground stops due to severe thunderstorms.

DFW halted flights around 9:20 am local time and the advisory is set to stay in place until at least 10:45 am.

However, the FAA has warned that it is highly likely the ground stop will be extended.

Delays are currently averaging 60 minutes and are increasing, the FAA has reported.

Meanwhile, the ground stop at DAL was issued around 9:40 am local time and is set to last until at least 11 am with a “medium” chance of it being extended.

Travelers are advised by the FAA to check with their airlines to see if their flights are impacted.

It comes after the airport is still reeling from having to cancel over 140 flights on Friday due to severe thunderstorms.
