The show aired for 11 seasons, with the most recent being broadcast in November 2017.

According to Deadline, Ice Road Truckers is coming back for season 12 – after almost a decade away.

Viewers watched the adventures of drivers operating trucks on ice roads covering frozen rivers and lakes.

Todd Dewey and Lisa Kelly return and are joined by a group of new rookies.

Season 12 will debut on October 1, with the cast returning to dangerous terrain in Northern Canada.

It will see them delivering much needed necessities and supplies to isolated communities.

Eli Lehrer, EVP and Head of Programming for The History Channel, shared his thoughts on Ice Road Truckers returning.

He said: “The timing couldn’t be better to bring back a beloved series that once resonated with our viewers for over a decade.

“We’re pleased to have this new season of Ice Road Truckers be a co-production with our Canadian partners at Corus Entertainment as this season ventures into a new era of storytelling for the series that infuses fresh energy and new challenges while honoring its rich legacy.”

Lisa appeared on Ice Road Truckers between seasons three and five, returning from seasons seven through 11.

As for Todd, he debuted in the seventh season and stayed until the show’s initial end.

Alex Debogorski was the only person to appear in all of the first 11 seasons.

Meanwhile, former star Darrell Ward passed away in 2016, at the age of 52.

He tragically died in a plane crash while en-route to film the pilot for a documentary.

Darrell was headed to Missoula, Montana after stopping by Dallas to begin filming his new show on the recovery of plane wrecks.

His plane crashed killing both himself and his co-pilot near Interstate 90 in Texas.

Speaking at the time, Darrell’s family said in a statement: “While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief.

“Trucking has always been a large part of Darrell’s life; from running the harvest rigs with his grandparents and family, to driving trucks from Montana to Alaska and all roads in between.”
