HBO changes the name of SIX channels and fans are baffled

The news of the shakeup was announced on Thursday, along with which channels would be affected.

This includes HBO2, which is now known as HBO Hits; HBO Signature has transitioned to HBO Drama; and HBO Zone is now referred to as HBO Movies.

In addition, MoreMAX has been renamed to Cinemax Hits, ActionMAX to Cinemax Action, and 5starMAX to Cinemax Classics.

The update is effective immediately and is reflected on live-in app channels within HBO Max.

‘I DON’T GET IT’

Fans expressed their thoughts on social media over the abrupt switch, with many wondering why it had to happen at all.

“Confusing as ****,” one X user commented.

“How much rebranding money is this company always sitting on?” another pondered.

“I don’t get it. Do they have some budget they need to use up on rebranding HBO, Max, HBO Max or whatever it is this month?” questioned a third.

This comes just two months after Warner Bros. Discovery reverted the name of its popular streaming service, Max, to its original name, HBO Max.

HBO Max launched in 2020 and was renamed Max in 2023, confusing fans due to the repeated name changes.

CEO David Zaslav addressed the move at the 2025 WBD upfront, telling the crowd, “The powerful growth we have seen in our global streaming service is built around the quality of our programming.

“Today, we are bringing back HBO, the brand that represents the highest quality in media, to further accelerate that growth in the years ahead.”

HBO has been the home of many buzzed-about programs, including The Sopranos, Sex and the City, Game of Thrones, The White Lotus, and The Pitt.
