JERRY JONES’ past comments aged poorly for himself and the Dallas Cowboys just seconds into their Week 1 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Eagles defeated the Cowboys, 24-20, in the NFL‘s season-opener on Thursday night.

Cowboys longtime owner and general manager Jerry Jones’ recent comments aged horrifically just seconds into the Week 1 contest[/caption]
Following the blockbuster Micah Parsons trade last week, the 82-year-old Jones held a press conference.
During the conference, the longtime Cowboys owner defended his decision to trade Parsons to the Packers while receiving defensive tackle Kenny Clark in the deal.
Jones stated that “we have to stop the run” when it comes to the defense’s priority for the 2025 season, seemingly indicating that Parsons didn’t do a good enough job in that department.
Well, the Cowboys didn’t get the message, as the Eagles dominated on the ground game on Thursday night.
Stars Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts, and backup Will Shipley combined for over 120 yards and all three of Philly’s first-half touchdowns.
The Eagles didn’t score a touchdown in the second half, but still found a way to come out victorious.
Unsurprisingly, NFL fans mocked Jones for his remarks coming back to bite the Cowboys.
“Ohhh Jerry,” one wrote.
“3 rushing TDs allowed in 3 drives; great rushing D by the Cowboys to start the season,” another commented.
“Well they are keeping them under 50 yards. For each player…,” a third said.
“Different year, same trash a** rush defense,” a fourth added.
The last comment referenced the Cowboys’ recent brutal history of defending the run.
Last season, even with Parsons, the team was near the bottom in all rush defense statistics, including opponent rushing yards per game (137.1) and opponent rushing touchdowns (25).
Likely, the Cowboys wouldn’t have fared much better with Parsons when it comes to stopping the run.

However, the team could’ve used his pass-rushing skills, which have helped him record at least 12 sacks in each of his first four seasons.
The Cowboys recorded just one sack on the mobile Hurts.
And the Eagles were 8-of-13 on third-down conversions.
The defending champion Eagles will take on the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl 59 rematch in Week 2.
