According to LA Times beat reporter Ben Bolch, Clarkson was arrested on Friday night.
He was booked and immediately suspended by UCLA.
The Los Angeles Police Department arrested Clarkson and set his bail at $30,000.
According to Bolch, the weapon was not a firearm.
A hearing is scheduled for Clarkson on October 3.
“We are aware of the charges against Pierce Clarkson,” a UCLA athletic department spokesperson said in a statement.
“He has been indefinitely suspended from all team activity pending the outcome of the legal process.
“This situation will be evaluated by the UCLA Office of Student Conduct and any further action taken will be in accordance with that evaluation and University policy.”
Clarkson served as the backup to UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava before his arrest.
He was not seen on the field before UCLA’s Saturday loss to UNLV.
UCLA coach DeShaun Foster confirmed on Monday that Clarkson was absent from the game and will not be allowed on the team until the situation is resolved.
Clarkson transferred to UCLA after spending last year at Mississippi.
He also played limited reps at Louisville for two seasons.
Clarkson is the son of quarterback trainer Steve Clarkson.
