The Nepali government announced a ban of several platforms including Facebook, X and YouTube to major backlash.
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has handed in his resignation amid the ongoing violent unrest.
But one viral video lays bare the extent of the rage against Nepal‘s political establishment.
The clip, which has been viewed more than 800,000 times on X, shows the county’s finance minister being chased into a river.
He can be seen chased by scores of protesters as he is paraded along the stream with his clothes stripped off.
A baying mob can be seen cheering on the spectacle from the river banks as he is unceremoniously paraded along.
It comes after at least 19 people have died in deadly clashes between demonstrators and police over the social media prohibiton.
Demonstrators took to the streets near the parliament building in Kathmandu to make their voices heard.
“Stop the ban on social media, stop corruption not social media,” crowds chanted.
But police pushed back with heavy force against the protests.
Water cannons, batons and rubber bullets were used by cops during the unrest.
It even led to authorities imposing a curfew on parts of the city at the height of the protests.
A police spokesman told AFP: “Tear gas and water cannons were used after the protesters breached into the restricted area.”
The house of the former PM was set ablaze during the unprecedented violence on Nepal’s streets.
Rajyalaxmi Chitrakar, the wife of former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal, reportedly died in the inferno.
Oli announced his resignation to “further efforts toward a constitutional political solution”.

He said: “I hereby resign from the office of Prime Minister, effective immediately, under Article 77(1)a of the Constitution.”
According to the Kathmandu Post, the riots aren’t “just about social media”.
It is also the result of growing distrust in a “corrupt” regime, the outlet claims.
The paper wrote: “This isn’t just about social media – it’s about trust, corruption, and a generation that refuses to stay silent.
“Gen Z grew up with smartphones, global trends, and promises of a federal, prosperous Nepal.
“For them, digital freedom is personal freedom. Cutting off access feels like silencing an entire generation.”
