Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford: What belts are on the line for epic Las Vegas fight?

CANELO ALVAREZ and Terence Crawford are certainly no strangers to having boxing belts in their illustrious careers.

Mexican mogul Canelo overcame William Scull via a unanimous decision the last time he competitively fought in May.

And as a result, the boxing great unified his Cuban opponent’s IBF belt with his WBA, WBC and WBO titles.

This also means Alvarez has had a whopping 16 world titles across four different weight divisions.

Meanwhile, Crawford became the first male boxer to simultaneously hold all four major world titles in boxing (WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO) since Jermain Taylor in 2005 by defeating Errol Spence.

Even Crawford’s most recent fight ended with another belt around his waist when he beat Israil Madrimov to snatch the WBA super-middleweight strap in August 2024.

But with all that being said, not every belt will be on the line during the upcoming Las Vegas main event.

What belts are on the line?

Canelo is defending the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBF super-middleweight world titles.

That’s the iconic green and gold World Boxing Council strap, World Boxing Association title, the World Boxing Organisation belt and the International Boxing Federation’s red version.

Some boxing purists will be furious that this match-up has been made as Crawford has never even boxed at this 168lbs division before, let alone earned his way up the rankings with sanctioning fees and victories.

But most boxing fans can see that the physical dimensions between the two are very similar, with the Omaha icon even looking bigger than Canelo at some photo ops.
