Indiana Fever make history without injured Caitlin Clark as WNBA team issue update over her future

THE Indiana Fever have made history this week despite continuing to miss Caitlin Clark in the WNBA.

Clark’s season has been curtailed as she’s battled multiple injuries throughout the year.

She has featured just 13 times for Indiana in 2025 and won’t return this season.

But despite this, the Fever have managed to make the WNBA playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2015-16.

Indiana beat the Washington Mystics on Sunday to confirm their spot in the playoffs before defeating the Minnesota Lynx 83-72 on Tuesday.

This extended their record to 24-20.

Heading into the season, the Fever had championship expectations, but a mix of injuries and departures has defined their nightmarish seasons.

Not only has Clark been hit with a season-ending injury, but also Sophie Cunningham, Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald.

McDonald was a mid-season addition to cover for other injuries.

Cunningham suffered a major knee injury back in August.

The Fever also lost DeWanna Bonner to Arizona in July: another major blow to their season.

On September 4, Clark shared a post on X discussing her injury.

She said, “I had hoped to share a better update, but I will not be returning to play this season.

“I spent hours in the gym every day with the singular goal of getting back out there.

“Disappointed isn’t a big enough word to describe how I am feeling.

“I want to thank everyone who had my back through all the uncertainty.

“This has been incredibly frustrating, but even in the bad, there is good.

“The way the fans continued to show up for me, and for the Fever, brought me so much joy and important perspective.

“I am so proud of how this team has only gotten stronger through adversity this year.

“Now it’s time to close out the season and claim our spot in the Playoffs.”

Despite the Fever missing their talisman, they currently sit sixth in the standings, just below conference rivals New York Liberty.

They look set to play either the Las Vegas Aces or Atlanta Dream, depending on the final results of the season.
