KROGER has confirmed that more store openings will continue this year alongside mass shutdowns in several states.
Consumers can also expect a shakeup in the layout of the new locations, and this pattern is set to continue into 2026.

Earlier this summer, bosses at the supermarket giant noted that 60 underperforming stores would be removed from the map.
It came as the result of internal evaluations that were previously paused during a failed $24.6 billion merger attempt with Albertsons.
With the shutdowns, Kroger plans to reinvest in new store openings, with interim CEO Ronald Sargent confirming on a Thursday earnings call that at least 30 would arrive by the end of 2025.
Sargent emphasized that the locations would have “redesigned” and “efficient” layouts to improve the shopping experience for guests.
