SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A pedestrian died in a single vehicle crash Thursday, seven miles west of Irene.
The names of the people involved have not been released pending notification of family members. The crash was reported at 8:23 p.m.
According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, a 37-year-old driver of a 2022 Tesla was traveling eastbound on SD Highway 46 near mile marker 339 when the Tesla struck a 67-year-old man walking in the roadway. The man was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died.
The DPS said in follow-up questions from KELOLAND News that the pedestrian was not attached to any vehicle near the roadway and that he could have been crossing in the roadway. The DPS also said in the follow-up that no charges are pending in the crash.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
