The Luang Por Ngern Wat Bang Klan Foundation and a former temple committee member have clarified that no funds have gone missing. They dispute claims by Pol. Lt. Gen. Jarungkiet Panakeaw that between 30 and 40 million baht have disappeared.
Yesterday, on September 13, Porn Panpeng, the foundation’s secretary and former committee member of Wat Hirunyaram or Wat Bang Klan in Pho Thale district, Phichit province, addressed the media.
He referenced an interview given by Pol. Lt. Gen. Jarungkiet, where it was alleged that 30 to 40 million baht had gone missing from the temple’s original 105 million baht over the past decade.
Porn questioned these claims, noting that an investigation was conducted in 2022 and 2023 by Pol. Lt. Gen. Jarungkiet and his team, during which all documents and evidence were submitted. This was done in cooperation with various entities, including the National Office of Buddhism, and no wrongdoing was found.
Furthermore, last year under Pol. Lt. Gen. Jarungkiet’s direction, a committee was established, comprising local leaders, to examine the temple and foundation’s finances thoroughly again. A comprehensive review of all documents, including sacred objects, was conducted, and no misconduct was discovered.
After this process, which concluded midway through last year, there were several peaceful ceremonial events and activities to promote unity at the temple.
Despite strict financial investigations and allegations, the temple continues to develop. It maintains a serene atmosphere for worshippers seeking blessings from Luang Por Ngern.
The foundation emphasised its legal status as an entity. They stated that any legal complaints must be filed by the foundation itself, rather than third parties.
Porn, although a former committee member, stated he was not involved in financial matters. He also mentioned that all members, including the complainant, were informed of temple activities.
He questioned whether the complainant, who previously served as a temporary committee member, had fulfilled their duties regarding the sacred objects of the temple.
Porn further inquired if Pol. Lt. Gen. Jarungkiet had investigated the complainant thoroughly, according to a report by Khaosod.
