Eldridge is a highly rated first baseman, having been drafted as a two-way prospect[/caption]
Eldridge has been promoted from Triple-A Sacramento to the majors.
His call-up comes off the back of a hamstring injury to first baseman Dominic Smith.
The 20-year-old was San Francisco’s top draft pick in the 2023 MLB Draft.
He was the 16th overall pick.
When selected by the Giants, Eldridge was a two-way option, but has since transitioned to first base.
He spent his first professional season with rookie-level Arizona Complex League Giants and Single-A San Jose Giants.
Since then, he has slowly worked his way up the ladder, playing AA and AAA.
The first baseman started the season on the Double-A injury list at Richmond, but after his recovery has pushed his way into the major leagues.
In his 66 appearances for Sacramento, he posted a .249/.322/.514 slash line with 18 home runs and 63 RBIs.
It is unclear how Eldridge will be used by the Giants, with him still learning the intricacies of first base.
With two weeks to go, the Giants have 13 games remaining.
They currently sit 1.5 games behind the New York Mets for the third and final NL wild card spot.
Their final road trip of the season kicks off on Monday, 15th September.
San Fran travel to Arizona for three matches against the Diamondbacks.
They then face the Dodgers in LA for four games.
The final week of the season sees them return home for their last six games.
They play the Cardinals, starting the following Monday, before a weekend matchup against the Rockies.
They are a half-game ahead of Arizona in the wild-card race and 2.5 games ahead of St. Louis.
The Giants seem an unlikely prospect to make the playoffs, with the Mets as heavy favourites.
ESPN gives them a 10% chance of qualifying.
