The Bengals lost star quarterback Joe Burrow to a serious toe injury during the second quarter.
But the Jaguars couldn’t capitalise, with Burrow’s understudy Jake Browning guiding his team to an important win.
During the fourth quarter, Lawrence‘s frustration got the better of him.
The flashpoint occurred after the Jaguars quarterback saw a looping pass toward Dyami Brown intercepted.
Rookie head coach Coen was fuming, and could be seen urging Lawrence to aim for his receivers’ chest instead.
The Jaguars star didn’t accept the advice, however, instead brashly waving off his head coach.
Jacksonville had led by three points at the time, but went on to lose by four.
Former Pro Bowler Robert Griffin III was unimpressed with Lawrence’s reaction toward his head coach.
The 35-year-old wrote on X, “Worst thing a Coach can do is show up his QB.
“Worst thing a QB can do is blow off his coach.
“The Jaguars have to fix the most important relationship on a football team between Head Coach Liam Coen and QB Trevor Lawrence or it will be a long year.”
After the game, Coen refused to criticise his quarterback.
The 39-year-old said, “It was just one throw, I was p****d.
“It is what it is. That’s emotion. It’s not personal, ever. That’s just kind of me getting worked up.
“He threw a dime in the back of the end zone and we don’t make a play.
