Active weather pattern ahead for KELOLAND this week

Good morning KELOLAND! Thunderstorms rumbled through KELOLAND yesterday with 2 tornadoes reported in the Mobridge area around 1pm. In addition, storms with damaging winds affected Beaver Creek and Pipestone, MN. You can see the 24 hour rain totals on the map below. Remember, this is just 24 hours. The grand totals from the weekend were much more around Mobridge, close to 3 inches.

Here’s a look at the radar loop from the past 24 hours. Storms were especially severe around Bismarck with more tornadoes and flooding. This first low is moving north into southern Canada this morning, but another area of low pressure will soon arrive this week.

We expect a dry day today for Sioux Falls with a high near 85, several degrees above normal.

Futurecast below shows the rain trends and temperatures the next few days. After widespread 80s today, more scattered t-storms could return to far western SD. We expect another very warm day tomorrow with highs near 90 in Sioux Falls. Thunderstorms will likely develop in northern Nebraska and track to the north late in the day. More rain is likely this week as this weather system sits and spins over the region for several days.

You can see more of those features on the animation below. It might take until Saturday for this system to clear the KELOLAND region. As you might imagine, some locally heavy rain totals are possible this week.

Here are the details of the forecast.
