Ford, Toyota, Lexus, Mazda, Subaru, and Acura all have a hand in the latest massive recall numbers.

These recalls were published from September 8 through 14, covering everything from faulty rearview cameras to a loss of steering assistance.

Ford’s recall of 1,456,417 total units is due to the former example, caused by an unauthorized change made by a sub-supplier in the printed circuit boards used for the cameras.

This change effectively made the boards more susceptible to corrosion over time, with the automaker still working out the best fix for the problem.

Models covered by the recall include the 2017 to 2019 Ford Econoline, 2015 to 2018 Ford Edge, 2015 to 2017 Ford Expedition, 2015 to 2019 Ford F-250 SD, F-350 SD, and F-450 SD,  2016 to 2019 Ford F-550 SD, 2015 to 2019 Ford Mustang, 2019 Ford Ranger, 2016 to 2019 Ford Transit, 2015 to 2018 Ford Transit Connect, 2015 to 2019 Lincoln MKC, and 2015 to 2017 Lincoln Navigator.

Mazda, meanwhile, recalled 104,854 vehicles affected by an issue that renders fuel gauge readings inaccurate. Affected models include certain 2024 to 2025 CX-90 and 2025 CX-70 mild hybrid electric vehicles.

The problem stems from ethanol-based fuel causing buildup on a circuit board in the vehicles’ sub-tanks, interfering with the gauge’s function and giving inaccurate readings.

Toyota‘s issues focus on its defroster and defogger systems shutting off during certain HVAC system faults, which is due to the programming of the HVAC and ECU software.

This means most repairs will be as simple as loading a free software update, while some units may need their electrical compressors replaced if it’s the HVAC system fault in question.

Affected models include certain 2023 to 2025 Toyota bZ4X and 2025 Lexus RZ, as well as Subaru Solterra vehicles, amounting to 94,320 affected units in total.

Finally, Honda recalled certain 2025 Acura RDX vehicles due to an issue with their electric power steering assist software. Affected units number 17,334 in total, and are restricted to the 2025 model year only.

If the software isn’t correctly calibrated, it can enter a failsafe mode which results in the loss of power steering assist. Dealers will fix the issue by reprogramming the software for free.

In total, 1,672,925 vehicles nationwide are affected by these four recalls from multiple manufacturers.

Owners who may be affected can search their vehicle identification number on the official NHTSA website, which will confirm whether or not their vehicle has a recalled component and provide the necessary next steps if any.

FORD’S FUTURE DARKENED BY RECALLS

Ford has seen over 100 recalls made throughout 2025 so far.

In August, Ford recalled many different F-series pickup trucks for issues with the instrument cluster going dark on startup, leaving drivers with none of the critical operating information it would typically provide them.

July saw the manufacturer recall over 200,000 vehicles for backup cameras that would go blank or freeze when drivers attempted to reverse their vehicles.

While this doesn’t necessarily hinder the operation of the vehicle, it is a major issue impacting a feature many drivers have come to rely on.

Ford started September 2025 by recalling over 100,000 Ford Rangers shipped with faulty side curtain airbags that did not meet contemporary safety standards.

These recalls and others from 2025 are fueling doubts about the company’s future amidst the consistent manufacturing mistakes and competition from Chinese automakers.

Current Ford CEO Jim Farley admitted that the world “do[es] not have a future Ford” if the “global competition with China” is lost in both EVs and beyond, per Business Insider.

In context, Farley’s comment comes amid Ford’s rumored EV plans, including a forward–thinking revival of the Ford Ranchero.
