But Travis Kelce and Chiefs team-mate Tyquan Thornton sparked controversy with their decision to wear T-Shirts supporting the wide receiver ahead of their clash with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Kelce and Thornton were seen with tops which said: “Free 4”.
This is the number that Rice wears for the NFL franchise.
The move drew criticism online given the gravity of the situation.
However, head coach Reid sympathised with his stars.
When questioned about it by media on Monday, Reid said: “I would tell you, the guys love Rashee, and they feel for him sitting out here.
“And so I think it’s no more than that.
“I just think that those guys, they love the kid and want them to feel part of it in their own way.
“I really don’t think it’s anything more than that.”
Rice, 25, was suspended by the league after racing his Lamborghini on a Dallas Highway against his former SMU team-mate, Theodore Knox.
The pair were driving at speeds of 120mph in 2024, and sent six people to hospital following a horror wreck.
Rice pleaded guilty to third-degree felony count of collision involving serious bodily injury and a third-degree felony count of causing bodily injury in July.
He was sentenced to five-years probation and 30 days of jail time and was ordered to pay $115,481.91 to victims for medical expenses.
Rice also settled a lawsuit filed by two victims by agreeing to pay $1million plus their legal expenses and he still faces another lawsuit from a different victim.
The NFL then added their own measure by suspending him for six games due to a violation of the personal conduct policy.
The Chiefs ultimately lost their game to the Eagles 20-17.
