Aldi is chasing its goal of 225 new stores in total in 2025, which would break its record of the most stores it has opened in the US in a single year.
CONVERSION PLANS
By the end of 2028, Aldi plans to open 800 new locations, and convert 220 recently acquired Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets by 2027.
Aldi bought 400 stores from the chain’s shared parent company, Southeastern Grocers in 2024.
The chain is currently converting one Winn-Dixie into an Aldi store in St. Johns County, Florida.
It is expected to be opened within the next few months,.
Another conversion is taking place in Ormond Beach, Florida, which marks Aldi’s second location in the city.
But the chain recently sold back 170 of these 400 stores to Southeastern Grocers, working in combination with C&S Wholesale Grocers .
Aldi will hold onto the 220 stores it plans to convert into its own format.
Southeastern Grocers will keep control of the 220 stores for now as Aldi slowly converts each one.
