‘Sexy and aggressive’ – Shocked Amy Hunt bursts into tears after stunning 200m silver at World Athletics Championships

SPRINTER Amy Hunt could not control her emotions after powering to a 200m silver medal at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

The 23-year-old burst into tears at seeing her name on the board after edging ahead of Jamaica’s Sherica Jackson in third with a time of 22.14 seconds.

She also won silver at the 2024 Olympics as part of Team GB’s 4x100m relay team[/caption]

Hunt gave a touching and uplifting interview to BBC Sport following the race where she labelled her event as ‘sexy and aggressive.’

She said: “I’ve not stopped smiling or crying.

“As soon as I saw my mum I just burst into tears.

“I am so proud of myself, moments before the race I just thought about my grandad. I knew he was watching over me, I knew he was gonna guide me.”

Hunt’s achievements are all the more impressive considering her challenging circumstances while trying to get to this level.

The Newark-born runner chose to pursue an English Literature degree at Cambridge rather than focus all of her time on her athletics career, competing alongside her studies until graduating in 2023.

And yet, Hunt managed to get into the Team GB 4x100m women’s relay team for the 2024 Olympics, where they brought home a silver medal.

She continued: “I chose to go to Cambridge to get a degree, in part for myself to look back and be proud of, but also in part to show other young sportspeople, other young girls, you don’t need to give up education.

“You can be an academic bad**s and a track goddess.”

It was just Great Britain’s second medal of the World Championships, following Jake Wightman’s silver medal in the men’s 1500m on Wednesday.

She hinted she will be celebrating with Japan’s classic pastime of karaoke[/caption]

Hunt declared her plans to follow further in Wightman’s footsteps by matching his post-race celebration method of karaoke.

The Scot previously revealed that he had toasted his race by singing Spandau Ballet’s Gold in a local bar, though Hunt’s song of choice was shown to be a little less obvious.

She said: “I can’t believe it, maybe some karaoke tonight!”

When asked what she would choose to sing, she said: “Probably Maneater.

“That’s really boring but I feel like that was the vibe tonight, just sexy and aggressive.”
