Kansas City Chiefs announce star is officially out of Week 3 in major decision following Travis Kelce benching talk

THE Kansas City Chiefs will be without a key offensive contributor in Week 3.

Andy Reid’s squad is currently 0-2 as they’ll take on the New York Giants in a Sunday Night Football Week 3 matchup.

The Chiefs have dealt with numerous issues on offense, among them being injuries at the wide receiver position.

Patrick Mahomes has also received brutal returns from star tight end Travis Kelce, who has gotten calls to be benched.

Kansas City is now staring at a potential third loss in a row, and, to make matters worse, it appears that a star offensive player will not be suiting up once again.

On Saturday morning, the Chiefs announced that wideout Xavier Worthy has been ruled out of Sunday night’s game against the Giants.

Worthy also won’t travel with the Chiefs for the contest.

The second-year wide receiver suffered a shoulder dislocation just minutes into the Week 1 game.

Worthy ran into teammate Kelce on a route and didn’t return to the contest.

The 22-year-old wasn’t placed on injured reserve, but didn’t play in the Week 2 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Worthy was limited in practice on Tuesday and Thursday before being listed as “doubtful” on the injury report for the game.

He is coming off an exceptional rookie campaign in which he put together 658 yards and six touchdowns.

Kansas City has been without its top two receivers in Worthy and Rashee Rice, who will be out until Week 7 due to a six-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy. 

As a result, the team has given plenty of snaps to Hollywood Brown, Tyquan Thornton, and JuJu Smith-Schuster.

The Chiefs have found it hard to create explosive plays.

Mahomes has averaged 6.5 yards per attempt, below last year’s career-low mark of 6.8.

And the rushing attack is among the worst in the league.

Isiah Pacheco has averaged 3.1 yards per carry, and Kareem Hunt isn’t too much better in that department (3.6 ypc).

Kansas City is 0-2 for the first time since 2014.

The Chiefs will hope to earn their first victory against a Giants team that is also winless and desperate not to find themselves 0-3.
