RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) –The Pete Lien & Sons Shooting Sports Complex is nearing completion just north of Rapid City.
This facility will be run through South Dakota Game Fish & Parks and will offer a variety of shooting options.
Before it’s open to the public, this brand new facility will host its first shooting competition next week.

“We do believe this will have a huge economic impact on the area here. We are intending to have some large matches that will bring people from across the nation into the area.” Complex Project Lead John Kanta said.
This process started back in 2019, construction began nearly two years ago.
The Shooting Sports Complex is broken up into two ranges, with the north range offering 17 active positions as well as training for law enforcement. With the south end, you’ll have 160 different shooting positions throughout its ranges, with 140 being free to the public.
“There will always be a free opportunity. We are going to have some areas that will require an annual pass but again, those 50, 100, and 300 yard bays and then the archery range are going to be free to the public.” Kanta said.

This complex will also offer several classes on gun control and safety.
“We know that there are a number of folks that are buying guns and some folks buying their first gun. We want to see those people out here and offer them classes for free to show them how to keep their guns safe, clean, keep them out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have it and things of that nature.” Kanta said.
This complex will be the state’s 21st public shooting range. ‘It will be the largest in South Dakota.
The Shooting Sports Complex will open to the public on November 8th.
