The 45-year-old had reached the 14,162 ft summit during his hike on September 12.

He was joined by two strangers as he went down the “non-technical” Clear Creek Trail, The San Francisco Chronicle reported.

But the tech professional strayed from the simpler descent path and ended up stranded on the Wintun Glacier.

This steep and icy point stands at a staggering 13,500 ft high.

He got stuck up there with one of the strangers he was walking with, according to reports.

The pair attempted to slide down the icy path to get to a safer location.

But this is when the horror moment struck, as Travizano lost control and hurtled down 300 feet into a boulder.

Witnesses recounted the terrifying ordeal to the local sheriff.

Travizano, who co-founded the software company GranData, was still alive in the moments after the fall.

He seemed to be knocked out for around 10 minutes, during which time another climber attempted to reach him, according to SF Gate.

But he soon regained consciousness, at which point he tried to move again.

However, this led to him slipping and falling out of sight off another edge.

His body was later found at the base of the glacier by the California Highway Patrol helicopter unit.

The sheriff’s office said: “While the Clear Creek Route is considered one of the mountain’s ‘safer’ trails to summit, climbers can become disoriented in low-visibility conditions, particularly when descending from the summit plateau.

“Once off the trail, these climbers often wander into more hazardous areas in the Ash Creek or Mud Creek drainages, where accidents are more likely to occur.”

Tributes have poured in for the tech CEO following the news of his shocking death.

One mentee wrote that Travizano was “extremely warm, a great family man, and funny as hell”.

Trained as a physicist, his company was based in San Francisco.

Travizano had also been named as a government adviser by Argentine President Javier Milei in 2024.

He helped organise Milei’s first tour of Silicon Valley, during which he was photographed alongside the President and Apple CEO Tim Cook.
