The chain – Aldi – confirmed the rollout as part of its biggest single-year push in nearly 50 years of operating in the US.
Aldi already has more than 2,500 stores nationwide, ranking as the country’s third-largest grocer by location count.
The latest growth comes after Aldi closed its purchase of Southeastern Grocers, the parent company of Winn-Dixie and Harveys.
Around 220 of those acquired stores will be converted into Aldi locations by 2027, while about 170 will be sold off to other operators.
Nearly 100 former Winn-Dixie and Harveys sites are already being transformed into Aldi stores, with many reopening before the end of this year.
By the close of 2025, Aldi expects to have opened more than 225 locations in total – a record pace for the company.
The ultimate goal is to hit 800 new stores by 2028, cementing Aldi’s reach in both new and existing markets.
States on the fall list include Georgia, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Alabama, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Florida and Arizona.
In Alabama, Aldi is celebrating a grand opening in Tuscaloosa on September 18, while other cities like Mobile and Madison have already welcomed shoppers.
Louisiana is also seeing a wave of openings, with Hammond and Slidell both launching new stores on September 25, and Zachary slated to follow.
Maryland shoppers will see a Charlotte Hall store open its doors on September 18, joining a location already operating in Prince Frederick.
Mississippi is set to add new Aldi stores in Ridgeland and Gulfport, alongside a location in Long Beach.
Arizona is doubling up in Surprise, with one store already open and another arriving October 2.
Florida continues to be Aldi’s biggest growth market, with dozens of new locations planned from Orlando to Naples, plus three already open in Tampa.
How many Aldi stores are there in the US?
AS of May 12, 2025, there are 2,510 Aldi stores operating across 41 states and territories in the United States.
Florida leads with 244 locations, followed by Illinois (215), Ohio (170).
In 2025, the company plans to open 225 new stores.
Future Florida launches include Fort Lauderdale, Gainesville, Palm Harbor, and Sarasota, among others.
Pennsylvania shoppers will soon see new stores in Dillsburg and Harrisburg, adding to fresh openings in Philadelphia, Gettysburg and Ellwood City.
Illinois will add a new Chicago Ridge site, while Georgia shoppers can expect a Cordele store soon after earlier launches in Bainbridge and Thomaston.
Aldi is also expanding in Washington DC and Southern California, where a new Fontana store opened this month.
The grocer even has plans to open its first New York City location in Midtown Manhattan in 2026.
The surge means Aldi is on track to reshape the competitive grocery market, giving bargain hunters more choices in more states than ever before.
