Shopper uncovers Dollar Tree Halloween gem that rivals Pottery Barn’s $30 décor

A FREQUENT shopper at Dollar Tree has discovered a Halloween gem perfect for getting in the spooky holiday spirit.

The décor item is not only easy on the wallet, but also a dupe of a popular product offered through Pottery Barn.

It was highlighted in a recent Facebook reel from Windy City Crafts as one of a few from the discount chain that mirror higher-end options.

For just $1.50 each, consumers can scoop up the Metallic Decal Platter.

The platter comes in black and features two design options.

For the first, buyers would notice several Halloween-themed prints in a variety of colors.

Those prints include friendly jack-o-lanterns, ghosts, bats, spiders, spider webs, crescent moons, and skulls, among others.

The second design has only white prints with a skeleton and some stray bones with “shake your bones” written on the right-hand corner.

Dollar Tree’s Metallic Decal Platter measures 17.5 by 6.5 inches and can be used strictly as décor or hold snacks and treats.

It’s also made from 100% polystyrene (Styrofoam).

SAME THING?

Pottery Barn’s Scary Squad Stoneware Cookie Platter has extremely similar designs to the Dollar Tree option, but it’s $30.99.

That’s over $29 more, but the main difference for the cost increase is, of course, the materials it’s made with.

Stoneware is more durable and costs more, not to mention that the Scary Squad Stoneware CookiePlatter has decal artwork that features a matte glazed finish, per the product description.

The artwork depicts five ghosts as part of the squad, each with unique accessories.

For example, the first ghost holds a skull, the second a witch’s hat and broomstick, the third a jack-o-lantern, the fourth some bats, and the fifth a pitchfork and pointed tail.

It’s also important to note that Pottery Barn’s Scary Squad Stoneware Cookie Platter is smaller than Dollar Tree’s Metallic Decal Platter, with measurements of 12.5 by 5.25 inches.

PRICE SWITCH

Dollar Tree customers should also expect to see different pricing on Halloween decorations and other items at more of the chain’s over 8,900 stores soon.

The change comes as part of the three-tiered pricing strategy the discount chain implemented in recent years.

It first bumped up the base price for merchandise from $1 to $1.24, and then introduced Dollar Tree Plus sections with offerings at $3 and $5, respectively.

Now, there are three different store types — 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0.

Dollar Tree 1.0 stores have 95% of their products listed for $1.25, 2.0 stores have some multi-price sections in a single aisle, and 3.0 stores have a broader multi-price assortment from $1.25 to $7.

In a recent earnings call, CEO Michael C Creedon Jr that about 585 more Dollar Tree locations were “converted” to 3.0 models this summer.

The discount chain is also on track to have 5,200 stores operating through the 3.0 model by the end of 2025.

This is to be accomplished through around 2,000 conversions and 300 new store openings.

There are also at least four tricks at Dollar Tree that can save shoppers money, and a secret app for cash back.

A $1.50 tool at the chain can even declutter a room and is 70% cheaper than a Lidl favorite.
