PEYTON Manning released a list of proposed NFL rule changes and demands instant cash fines as a punishment.

While speaking on the “ManningCast”, which is Peyton and Eli Manning’s alternative commentary on Monday Night Football, Peyton Manning named five NFL rule changes he’d like to see.

The former QB cited the new NBA rule about last-second end-of-quarter shots no longer counting against players’ field goal percentages as the inspiration.

Manning said, “The NBA did this because the players weren’t shooting at the end of quarters because they didn’t want the missed shot to affect their field goal percentage.

“Now it’s a team miss, not a player miss.

“It got me thinking, why doesn’t this exist for Hail Mary passes that are intercepted at the end of the half?”

“So rule number 1: Intercepted Hail Marys shouldn’t count against quarterbacks at the end of the half.

“They should be a team interception. They shouldn’t be a quarterback’s interception.”

His second rule change was that false start and offside penalties should be equal within the ten-yard line.

“If you’re on the one-yard line and the offense false starts, they go back to the six-yard line.

“The very next play, if the defense jumps offside, they only go back half the distance to the three-yard line.

“The offense is entitled to get those five yards back. That rule makes no sense.”

Rule number three stated that targets should not be an official statistic.

“Targets are one of the biggest reasons that wide receivers get angry with quarterbacks. They should be outlawed.

“How do people know who I was throwing to when the ball was batted or when I was throwing it away. They don’t. Let’s get rid of targets.”

This was less of a rule change and more focused on how the game is watched and how statistics are calculated.

His fourth rule idea was that batted balls should be illegal.

“Nobody comes to a football game hoping to see someone bat down a pass. It’s lazy by the defensive lineman.

“It means his pass rush didn’t work. It should be an automatic replay of the down.”

Rule change number five: cash payments on the field for late hits.

“When a hit on the quarterback is going to result in a fine for the defensive player, there should be a cash payment on the field.

“The defensive player has to go and get the actual cash from the sideline and physically hand it to the quarterback.

“It would eliminate those kinds of plays because of the public embarrassment by the defensive player.”

While the segment was done slightly in jest, many of the rules do make sense, even if they are very quarterback-centric.

Manning is, of course, a former QB, so he will have a bias towards their protection.

The spot finished with Peyton and Eli joking as to which of them should call up the NFL commissioner to suggest the changes.
