According to ESPN, a challenge system will be placed for balls and strikes in the 2026 season.

That is after the league’s competition committee voted to usher in the era of robot umpiring.

Teams will receive two challenges to dispute calls by the home-plate umpire.

This of course raises questions as to what will happen to the actual umpires.

Baseball fans stormed social media to weigh on the commission’s new initiative.

One fan tweeted: “It will be fascinating to watch…”

Another commented: “Umpires: You’re done.”

A third wrote: “The robots are here!”

This fan said: “They’re gonna be gone by the 3rd inning.”

That one posted: “Baseball about to turn into an experiment.”

And finally another fan stated: “Robots are scary.”
