UPDATE: Jackley confirms 6 stabbed at State Pen

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has told KELOLAND News that six inmates were stabbed in an ‘altercation’ at Jameson Annex at the state prison Thursday night.

According to Jackley, five of the inmates were taken to the hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials have recovered three out of four “shanks” so far. There are numerous suspects, but officials are reviewing video surveillance to confirm how many people were involved in the stabbing.

The South Dakota Department of Corrections has confirmed to KELOLAND News that an “altercation” involving multiple inmates took place Thursday evening at Jameson Annex at the state prison in Sioux Falls.

The incident is under investigation with the Division of Criminal Investigation.

“To maintain integrity of the ongoing investigation, no further details are being released at this time,” the DOC said its Friday morning email to KELOLAND News.
