WNBA makes final punishment decision over Cheryl Reeve comments after Minnesota Lynx coach slammed refs ‘malpractice’

The Minnesota Lynx coach was ejected in the final seconds of Friday’s playoff semi-final loss to the Phoenix Mercury.

Reeve, 59, hit out at the officials after an incident between Mercury guard Alyssa Thomas and Lynx forward Napheesa Collier.

Collier’s left leg made contact with Thomas as the Mercury guard was going for a steal.

This left the Lynx star in pain on the floor and grabbing her ankle.

No foul was called on the play.

Reeve argued that this decision was “malpractice” from the officials.

Her ejection came after storming the court and berating an official for their decision.

She was also spotted shouting at fans after the game.

This has forced the WNBA into action to punish the offending Lynx coach.

Reeve has been handed a suspension after her controversial post-game comments.

She will miss the Lynx’s Game 4 visit to the PHX Arena.

It is a must-win game for the Lynx as they sit 1-2 in the WNBA semi-final playoffs.

Reeve’s side won their opening game 82-69 before falling short in overtime for Game 2.

Another loss on the road against the Phoenix puts the Lynx in an awkward situation.

They must win in Week 4 if they are to keep their WNBA dreams alive in the best-of-five series.

This will be made even harder as they do so without their head coach.

The Lynx have also provided an update on Collier after her involvement in the incident.

She will not be available for Game 4.

Collier has suffered an injury that brings her WNBA season to a premature end.

It is understood that she has likely suffered a fracture.

A win against the odds will extend the Lynx’s campaign for at least another week after topping the league during the regular season.
