This followed their 22-9 win against the New York Giants last week after back-to-back losses to start the 2025 NFL season.
Quarterback Mahomes, 30, has credited this win to the return of star wide receiver Xavier Worthy, 22.
Tight end Travis Kelce, 35, accidentally injured teammate Worthy during the Chiefs’ Week 1 loss against the Los Angeles Chargers.
It was later confirmed that Worthy had dislocated his right shoulder in the collision with Kelce.
The second-year receiver was ruled out of the Chiefs’ games against the Philadelphia Eagles and the Giants.
Worthy’s return has coincided with the Chiefs scoring their most points in a game since September 2023.
“He’s just so explosive,” Mahomes said. “When you get the ball in his hands, man, it just makes defenses have to adjust.
“Just having him out there, not only for his physical abilities but just the morale of the [locker room], I thought it was huge.”
It was a strong return for action as Worthy recorded 83 receiving yards.
He also managed to rush for 38 yards.
Both of these figures are career highs for the receiver.
His quarterback has argued that Worthy’s presence is key for the Chiefs.
Mahomes has explained that he is able to contribute successfully even without the football.
“With Xavier being back, it’s that threat of being able to win over the top,” Mahomes added. “It’s scary for defenses.”
“Because he gets so much attention on him, other guys can make plays happen.”
Worthy arrived in Kansas City last year as the 28th first round pick of the 2024 NFL Draft.
He scored a touchdown with his first touch for the Chiefs in their 2024 season-opener against the Ravens.
His connection with Mahomes proved crucial to reach Super Bowl LIX.
Worthy’s return from injury is expected to be pivotal for the Chiefs as they look to regather their form.
He is expected to play a key role again as the Chiefs travel to face the Jacksonville Jaguars this Monday.
