Budget airline completely ends service and cancels all flights two months early

A BUDGET airline has completely ended service and canceled all flights two months earlier than originally announced.

The airline was originally revealed to have all routes and flights canceled from December 2.

In July, it was reported Avelo Airlines would be completely pulling out of the West Coast.

The airline contracted with ICE to launch deportation flights earlier this year.

A spokesperson confirmed to KTLA Tuesday that Avelo Airlines would instead cease service on October 20.

According to officials, this decision came about as a result of “aircraft needs elsewhere and lack of demand during our final month.”

The spokesperson added that passengers who have already bought tickets should have been updated regarding new options.

Meanwhile, the airline was launched during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021.

It followed a rebrand having previously operated as Casino Express Airlines.

Quickly expanding its operations in Burbank with flights to Northern California, Oregon and Montana, Avelo’s West Coast base accounted for one-third of its customers by 2023.

Earlier this year, Avelo Airlines sparked controversy after launching federal deportation flights from Arizona.

This saw three Boeing 737-800s chartered for the flights from Mesa Gateway Airport near Phoenix.

The agreement was announced with the Department for Homeland Security in April.

It drew sharp criticism from the union representing its flight attendants and sparked an online petition calling for a boycott of the airline.

Meanwhile, Avelo Airlines pulling out of the West Coast follows another budget airline going out of business this year.

The Sun reported on how beleaguered Silver Airways failed to attract any possible buyers at a bankruptcy auction.

The carrier filed for bankruptcy in December last year after bosses struggled to clear mounting debts totalling more than $100 million.
