SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A local Sioux Falls nonprofit is closing after seven years, due to struggling to secure long-term financial stability.
Sioux Falls Thrive, a nonprofit organization that combines assets from businesses and organizations in Sioux Falls to help create and shepherd programs that benefit the community, announced it will close operations effective Sept. 30.
In a news release, Sioux Falls Thrive said it “extends sincere gratitude to all partners, volunteers, and supporters who have contributed to this journey. The impact of the collaboration cultivated over these years will continue to inspire and inform ongoing efforts to improve the lives of Sioux Falls residents.”
The organization’s main focuses were on food security, affordable housing and out-of-school enrichment. Each year, the group put together data and a report on Sioux Falls’ cradle-to-career workforce development. You can view the 2025 report below.
The news release also stated 2024 and 2025 presented “significant challenges” with one of the struggles being securing financial sustainability for the Eat Well Sioux Falls Mobile Market, which closed in June 2025.
Team Buche Cares bought the mobile food market, originally owned and managed by Sioux Falls Thrive, and plans to take it to the nine tribal reservations in South Dakota.
Other programs launched under Sioux Falls Thrive were Kid Link Initiative, Food Rescue 605, Sioux Falls Youth Connect, the Community Housing Education and Resource Fair, the Affordable Housing Fund, One Roof and the community’s first Housing Retention Specialist.
In April, the group highlighted federal and local funding impacts during a call for action.
