SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A Sioux Falls man is behind bars, being held on a $1 million bond, following the city’s latest murder.
Court documents say 54-year-old Timothy Bellonger killed his sister’s fiance.
Court documents also say an argument between two men ended with a stabbing.
Officers were called to a home along North Dakota Avenue in central Sioux Falls just after 1 p.m. Monday afternoon.
“This is nearby the police department, so officers responded and arrived on-scene quickly. They encountered a subject there who had serious injuries. An ambulance was summoned to the scene, and he was transported to a local nearby hospital,” Sgt. Cole German with the Sioux Falls Police Department said.
The victim, identified as 70-year-old James Lipscomb, later died. Police then arrested Bellonger for murder.
“At the time, the suspect was not on scene. Officers located him about two hours after the incident, maybe a little longer than that. A perimeter had been set up to contain and attempt to locate him,” German said.
Court documents say the victim and suspect both lived in the home, along with other relatives.
Prior to the stabbing, the affidavit says one person in the home heard an argument between Bellonger and Lipscomb and told investigators she heard the victim scream “in a way she had never heard before.”
Court documents also say that after Bellonger was taken into custody, he admitted to authorities that he stabbed the victim over an argument.
Bellonger is scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday afternoon.
Bellonger has a lengthy criminal history.
Over the past few decades, he’s faced drug charges, along with burglary and simple assault.
In 2014, he made headlines when he crashed into a central Sioux Falls apartment building.
Witnesses said he was going 70 miles an hour on residential streets. He was also drunk.
He ended up pleading guilty to his second DUI and served one year in jail.
