The Texas schoolteacher was accused of bringing in four kittens which had been delivered by her pet cat – before unceremoniously feeding them to the scaly predator.
One of the students was so disturbed by the experiment that they reportedly asked to take the other three kittens home, where they all later died.
The same complainant even claimed the teacher mockingly quipped that it is impossible to save every kitten.
She is also said to have told students at Alvord High School that she had fed kittens to snakes at her home before.
Animal rights group PETA issued a scathing condemnation of the teacher, before calling on the school to ban the use of live animals in the classroom.
They also demanded authorities to probe the teacher’s conduct.
PETA Vice President Rachelle Owen said if the reports were true, the teacher was “tearing newborn kittens from their mother and subjecting them to a painful, terrifying death”.
She added that the harrowing ordeal unfolded “in front of shocked and traumatised teenagers“.
The spokesperson said: “Anyone who would demonstrate such cruel and disturbing behavior shouldn’t be around children or animals.
“PETA is calling for an immediate investigation and a ban on live animals in all Alvord classrooms.”
Local cops confirmed the teacher fed one “ailing” kitten to a snake “outside the presence of students”.
Police investigated the depraved ordeal after a parent reported it, and no criminal charges have been filed.
Alvord Superintendent Randy Brown said: “The teacher, an experienced educator and animal lover, has apologized to the students for her actions and voluntarily removed all snakes from her classroom.”
He added that schoolchildren had been upset by the situation.
The parent who reportedly took the remaining three kittens home following the feeding told Fort Worth Star-Telegram of her experience.
She said her daughter texted her on September 3 asking if she could take the kittens home, the outlet reported.
The confused mum asked her child why she wanted to do this, before the student said her class had watched a teacher feed a kitten to a snake.
She said: “It was really hard on her – she was up every two hours trying to feed them.”
And she added: “A couple days later, the teacher is saying, ‘Thanks to whoever turned me in,’ and trying to justify it.”
