SPOTIFY is sending out notices about a major no-cost upgrade to free listeners.
People who don’t pay for the music app have finally received one of the best perks normally reserved for Premium listeners.
You’ll now be able to search for specific songs and then play them individually.
Previously, free users were only able to select playlists and then listen to them on shuffle.
And if you wanted to choose a specific song then you’d need a Spotify Premium membership, which is £11.99 in the UK or $11.99 in the US.
But Spotify has made a major change to the free tier, making it much better.
The move was announced in the middle of September, with Spotify promising to “roll out” the feature.
But now Spotify is actively pushing the feature to millions of users around the world.
In the email alert seen by The Sun on Tuesday, September 30, Spotify said: “Your Spotify just got better. Still free.
“Now you can pick and play any track, even on playlists shared in the group chat.”
Spotify says that free users will also be able to make their own playlists by adding individual tracks.
And the company said that it would also recommend songs for you “to add with the tap of a button”.
You’re also able to design your own cover art for playlists that you’ve created.
Of course, a Spotify Premium membership still has several advantages versus the free tier.
Premium members have the massive advantage of their music not being interrupted by ads.
By comparison, the free Spotify tier will regularly interrupt your listening with ad breaks.
You can also download songs for offline listening on the Premium tier.
And Premium also gets you higher audio quality.
Spotify Premium still comes with a free one-month trial, but that’s only available if you’ve never tried it before.
If you want to upgrade to Premium, there are several other plans that might make it more cost-effective.
