POLICE responded to a shooting at a Walmart, which left two people dead.
Investigators are looking into a deadly shooting that happened Thursday afternoon at a Walmart in Durango, Colorado.
The gunman is said to have shot one woman and then turned the gun on himself.
The Durango police department said that the situation is contained and there is no ongoing threat to the public, according to a post on Facebook.
“Our officers are currently on scene at the 1100 block of south Camino Del Rio in response to a reported shooting,” the Durango police department wrote Thursday afternoon. “Officers and emergency personnel are actively working the scene.”
“At this time, initial information indicates that two individuals have been injured. The situation appears contained, and there is no known ongoing threat to the public.
“We ask the public to avoid the area so first responders can work safely. Additional confirmed details will be released as soon as they are available.”
Police later confirmed that the two gunshot victims died in the hospital in a follow up comment on the initial Facebook post.
“The male subject and female victim involved in today’s shooting near Walmart in Durango have both died at the hospital,” the police department wrote five hours after the initial post.
“The male is believed to have shot the female before turning the firearm on himself. If you witnessed the incident or saw anything beforehand, please contact Durango Police at 970-385-2900.
